CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Timeframe: October 11 - October 24, 2026

Spotlight: In Montecito next week, crews will begin to remove K-rail barriers in preparation for pavement grinding. As the K-rail is removed, workers will be more exposed to surrounding traffic. Please "Be Work Zone Alert" to keep our crews safe. Maintain a look-out and a safe speed through the corridor, especially at night while crews are active. Grinding is expected to begin in mid-October, weather permitting. As a reminder, this work will be performed at night and will be noisy.

Closures (weather permitting)

Please drive safely through the corridor and remember to Slow for the Cone Zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph for safety throughout the construction area.

• Northbound Highway 101
  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sun., Oct 11 - Evans Ave to Olive Mill Road: Overnight lane closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane.
  • Nightly 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mon., Oct. 12-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Evans Avenue to Olive Mill Road: Overnight lane closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane.
  • Nightly 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Sheffield Dr. On-ramp: On-ramp closed overnight.
  • Nightly 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - San Ysidro Rd. On- and Off-ramps: On- and Off-ramps closed overnight.
  • Nightly 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Olive Mill Rd. Off-ramp: Off-ramp closed overnight.
  • Until summer 2028 - Cabrillo Blvd. off-ramp: Off-ramp closed. Drivers should use NB Hwy 101 Hermosillo Rd. Off-ramp.


• Southbound Highway 101
  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sun., Oct. 11 - Milpas St. to Sheffield Dr.: Overnight lane closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane.
  • Nightly 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mon., Oct. 12-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Milpas St. to Sheffield Dr.: Overnight lane closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane.
  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Sheffield Dr. Off-ramp: Off-ramp closed overnight.
  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Posilipo Ln. On-ramp: On-ramp closed overnight. Drivers should use SB Hwy 101 Sheffield Dr. On-ramp.
  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed., Oct. 14-Thurs., Oct. 15 - Olive Mill Rd. On-ramp: On-ramp closed overnight. Drivers should use SB Hwy 101 Sheffield Dr. On-ramp.
  • Until summer 2028 - Cabrillo Blvd. off-ramp: Off-ramp closed. Drivers should use SB Hwy 101 Spring/Olive Mill Rd. Off-ramp.

S. Jameson Lane
• Flaggers will direct traffic on S. Jameson Lane as needed for safety barrier work.

Please note: Closure times may be subject to adjustment if needed due to equipment breakdowns, material compliance or delivery delays, or safety concerns during the shift. Consecutive ramps in the same direction will not be closed at the same time (unless noted) to allow drivers to use a ramp before or after a closure.

Highway 101: Santa Barbara North

The Santa Barbara North segment is located between Hermosillo Rd and Salinas St.

• Highway 101 and On-and Off-Ramps at Cabrillo Boulevard Interchange
  • Crews continue to develop the roadway structure, including grading and drainage installation
  • Irrigation connections are also being installed.
  • No traffic control is expected over the next few weeks.
• Cabrillo Blvd. under Hwy 101
  • Construction continues at the Cabrillo Boulevard undercrossing, including pile installation and work on the bridge columns, as shown in the photo above.
  • Crews will also continue work on bridge footings and retaining walls.

Highway 101: Santa Barbara South

The Santa Barbara South segment is located between Olive Mill and Hermosillo Rds.

• Highway 101 and Southbound Off-Ramp at Spring/Olive Mill Rd
  • Concrete paving has been completed in this segment, and crews will begin constructing the concrete barrier in the center median.

Highway 101: Montecito

The Montecito segment is located between Sheffield Dr. and Olive Mill Rd.

• Highway 101
  • As shared in the Spotlight, drivers should expect to see K-rail removal along with the start of overnight grinding
  • The pavement grinding machine will ride in the center lane, while crews operate it to grind the carpool lane. Grinding creates the final roadway surface, introducing grooves for safe tire grip as well as sound attenuation. The operation takes place overnight, and it will be noisy.
  • Please keep our crews safe by maintaining a look-out and a safe speed throughout the corridor.
  • Overnight work in the southbound direction will be from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • At least one lane will remain open, and no consecutive ramp closures will occur.

Concrete Mix Site

The concrete mix site is located between S Padaro/Santa Claus Ln and N Padaro Ln.

• By mixing concrete on-site, the project saves an estimated 463,771 truck miles, reduces water use by 400,000 gallons (on-site mixing uses less water), and saves taxpayers between $10-$15 million.
• Concrete Recycling Continues by the Northbound Highway 101 Off-Ramp at N. Padaro Ln.
