Construction Update & Cameras
Timeframe: July 12 - August 1, 2026 *3-week update
Spotlight: Across all three project segments in construction, crews continue to make steady progress on permanent highway improvements. In Santa Barbara North, bridge foundation and retaining wall construction continues. Intermittent daytime flaggers will direct alternating one-way traffic beneath Highway 101 on Cabrillo Boulevard for equipment and material deliveries. In Santa Barbara South and Montecito, crews will continue constructing permanent roadway improvements, including storm drainage systems, bridge construction, retaining walls, and new median safety barriers. In Padaro the concrete mix site will operate overnight on July 30 to support placement of new reinforced concrete pavement in the Montecito segment; please expect night noise.
Closures (weather permitting)
Please drive safely through the corridor and remember to Slow for the Cone Zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph for safety throughout the construction area.

Northbound Highway 101
- Off-ramp at Cabrillo Blvd, closed until summer 2028. Drivers can use the off-ramp at Hermosillo Rd.

Southbound Highway 101
- Sunday, July 19 - Thursday, July 23, nightly, 8:00 p.m.* - 7:00 a.m.: One lane closed between Cabrillo Blvd. and Sheffield Dr. *Sunday night closure starts at 9:00 p.m.
- Sunday, July 19 - Thursday, July 23, nightly, 8:00 p.m.* - 7:00 a.m.: Spring/Olive Mill Rd off-ramp closed. Drivers will be detoured via the San Ysidro off-ramp. *Sunday night closure starts at 9:00 p.m.
- Off-ramp at Cabrillo Blvd, closed until summer 2028. Drivers can use the off-ramp at Spring/Olive Mill Rd as a detour; except during the anticipated overnight closures of the Spring/Olive Mill Rd off-ramp (July 19-23), when drivers can use the San Ysidro off-ramp.

- Flaggers will intermittently direct daytime one-way traffic beneath Highway 101 for equipment and material deliveries. Please expect short delays.

- Flaggers will direct traffic as needed for safety barrier work.
Please note: consecutive ramps in the same direction will not be closed at the same time (unless noted) to allow drivers to use a ramp before or after a closure. Highway 101: Santa Barbara North
The Santa Barbara North segment is located between Hermosillo Rd and Salinas St.

Highway 101 and on- and off-ramps at Cabrillo Blvd
- Construction continues on retaining walls and building deep foundations (piles) for the future freeway bridge (see photo above).
- Nearby residents and businesses may notice increased daytime construction noise through July 24 as bridge foundation drilling and retaining wall construction continues.
- Roadway excavation, grading and utility work continue to prepare for future roadway improvements.

- Large drilling equipment continues constructing deep bridge foundations for the future freeway bridge.
- Intermittent daytime flaggers will direct one-way reversing traffic beneath Highway 101 for equipment and material deliveries. Please expect short delays.

- Construction continues on permanent roadway improvements in the freeway median (see photo above), including new storm drainage systems and roadway grading.
- Work on the retaining wall final punch list items continues along the southbound off-ramp at Spring/Olive Mill Rd.
- Work to prepare sections of the future roadway for new pavement continues.
- Sunday, July 19 - Thursday, July 23, nightly, 8:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.: Spring/Olive Mill Rd off-ramp closed. Drivers will be detoured via the Sheffield Dr. off-ramp.

- Preparation continues for new reinforced concrete pavement in the freeway median, with placement beginning July 30.

- Crews continue to work on bridge support structures and bridge approaches in the freeway median.

The Padaro segment is located between S Padaro/Santa Claus Ln and N Padaro Ln. Improvements are built and in use for the Padaro segment.

Concrete Mix Site:
- Thursday, July 30, 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.: The concrete mix site will operate overnight to support placement of new reinforced concrete pavement in the Montecito segment. Please expect night noise.
- By mixing concrete on-site, the project saves an estimated 463,771 truck miles, reduces water use by 400,000 gallons (concrete mixed on-site uses less water), and saves taxpayers between $10-$15 million.
- Concrete recycling continues by the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp at N. Padaro Ln.
